Absolute Resource Guide: From Muscle to the Myofascial Unit: Current Evidence and Future Perspectives
Throughout every month, staggered by week I have an auto search set up on PubMed whereby the abstracts of recently published articles on certain topics will be sent directly to my email. Although it can be very broad, it is a great way to attempt to stay up to date on the evidence.
One of the topics of interest that I receive updates on is “myofascial force transmission”. This is an area of research that was in its infancy just as I was finishing Chiropractic school and beginning my residency in sports. Since then it has become a very well studied topic, with numerous studies published per year, as we have begun to understand the valuable role that connective tissue (not just fascia) plays in the movement system of the athletic human.
One of the articles that caught my eye last week, was From Muscle to the Myofascial Unit: Current Evidence and Future Perspectives, written by Antonio Stecco. It is a fantastic literature summary of the important contributions within this topic as well as providing a framework similar to FRS and Absolute on the interaction of muscle (red stuff) and connective tissue (white stuff).
