This was an awesome podcast. Thank you. At 1:25:15 in John talks about Drilling and why it's not very effective. He says "Any movement in the gym that doesn't improve the skills you already have, or build new skills is a waste of time and resources. Everything you do should be done with the aim and the understanding that this is going to make me better at the sport I practice. The majority of what passes as drilling will not make you better, including some of the most cherished forms of drilling, such as repetition for numbers." Coming from golf this really resonates. People will buy a bucket of 120 balls and hit the range, and you have to wonder if that sheer number of balls at your feet creates an environment of its own where "repetition" becomes the objective. Not to mention the flat hitting surface (sometimes artificial turf), giant open field, lack of consequences, etc..
