The concept of joint function, how to properly assess it, manage it and train to acquire it, is a topic that has been exclusive of Functional Range Systems and Absolute.
The two quantifiable outcomes that allow for optimal joint function are:
Workspace: the volume of joint movement combining the movements of all major anatomical planes in a three-dimensional space that occurs externally.
Capsular Space: the amount of area within the boundaries of the capsule that allows for relative bony motion that occurs within the internal environment.
Workspace has been studied within the scientific literature. Capsular space, on the other hand, has not yet and is an important theoretical construct that allows for Workspace to occur. In a recent literature search, I came across an article, the first to my knowledge, that shows the dynamic nature of Capsular Space and its relationship to joint motion. It was discussed at the most recent Founders meeting.
In addition, we discussed some of the relevant capsular anatomy with respect to the hip, as the article showing dynamic space changes requires a detailed understanding of hip joint anatomy.
An anatomical study of the Anterosuperior capsular attachment site on the acetabulum.
Happy Reading!
I’m looking forward reading these. Demands have been met! Thanks for digging them up 👊
Thank you for posting the articles! I look forward to diving into them!
